This was more passion than the need of money. My parents were sending me regular money and I could have managed with that. However I had a deep passion to teach physics.
I remember the Eidul’Adha in SIO hostel, and I managed to get biryani prepared for people. Zahoor visited my room. I shared with him about my coaching plan. He given me an opportunity to teach physics to one of the student in Shaheen Bagh, and I started.
In the back of my mind were two strong personalities, an inspiration for me to drive. I liked K K Jha and Shakeel Anjum. Both of them were the genius in Physics. I thought this as a good opportunity to leave SIO hostel and live with Zubair bhai (Zubair Manzer Hashmi). Zubair bhai and Humayun bhai were two gentle people around. Although they had a bias to hate Biharis somewhat, I liked them for other reasons. They were good to me. I thought I can start teaching students at room shared with Zubair bhai and Humayun bhai, but I was wrong. Zubair bhai didn’t like much rush to the room as this disturbed the room’s study environment. I didn’t resisted and was looking for some alternatives. Money was the problem. Unless I start saving much money, this was impossible for me to establish a coaching institute. This was the time I was selected in B.Tech E&C. That is itself a story.
Back in SIO hostel some months back, I was playing magic with objective books for engineering entrances. For last three months I was doing research on AIPMT, DPMT, AFMC and AMU exams questions pattern. I classified the syllabus with categories. Memorized lot of questions and plotted strategies for cracking both medical and engineering entrances. In evening I used to get in chat with Mr. Abdurrahman (aka Kela Bhai), Fazal, Neyazi and Danish over topics of importance. Fazal was sort of arrogant and he usually makes mockery with Neyazi and leave the discussion. Abdur Rehman bhai was quite enthusiastic with Danish on discussing MCQs. Days passed I appeared for exams, but luck was stuck with Jamia. The exam was good.
I appeared for entrance when I was in SIO hostel only. Then I shifted to Zubair bhai room E97 I think. This was a cool evening. I offered Asar Salah at Charminar mosque of E block, and was planning to go engineering faculty for entrance results. I saw Meraj Khan on a bike, happy, confused and worried at the same time. He told he was selected for electronics and the result is out. I was out of control…
I don’t know what happened to my Avon bicycle, I rush to faculty walking fast. There was hell lot of rush and started searching my roll number. My number was not there. Zahoor came and was disappointed as he was also not selected. He insisted me to look again, and Oh, I was there in first row, first column. I was selected for E&C. My best friend was not selected however. A mixed feeling. We sat around. A silence. Happy and Sad faces.
I came to room and Zubair bhai was combing to go out. I spoke with joy, “Selected E&C”, they were also happy. Humayun bhai was in his hometown Chandpur I suppose. When he came, he given me Deltoro’s Electrical engineering book. I was good in Physics and liked KCLs and KVLs at early age.
“Tough days, extra heavy bags. Very Very Stupid teachers. More bureaucracy than learning. Respected and knowledgeable Rafat Sir. Students doing buttering Bhaskar. I do not consider D R Bhaskar to be a teacher. Attitude. Contempt for internal students. I was more matured to life, had seen and was driving. So was not comfortable with the kids joined with me in class, playing dumb-sharads and antaksharies. Mr Karimi and his arrogance. Genius Beg sb, and mesmerizing digital classes. And lot more…”
“Mozahir, movies passion, songs and Nehru place. Shakir Malik and talks on his maternal uncles. I was not liking the engineering classes. Wanted to escape, but was bounded. Computer Architecture paper crossed and watched Munnabhai MBBS instead. Chemistry toughness, appeared three times in paper and get it cleared in last sem. I was best in electromagnetics and field theory, but Akhtar Imam was a stupid clawn and prejudiced me. I was marked less without any reason, but you cant argue stubbornness.”
